This is the largest pheasant in the world in Huron, SD.   Had a wonderful visit with our friends Donald and Sterling Salter and then we continued our trip West!

Also they had a neat large buffalo statue in the Chevy car dealer!  Only in the west!

This is the famous Corn Palace in Mitchell, SD.   It is truly a marvel.  Every year the same man designs the pictures and then local farmers donate the multi colored corn they have grown to bring the designs to life!  Along the entire side there are other neat pictures!

From Huron we drove west and took the Badlands loop.  This was awesome!   What a work of nature!   All the colors were astounding . . .brown, orange, pink.   Towards the end of the Badlands loop was a prairie dog town . . now that was something to see!   All the little doggies were out of their holes scampering around!   They were cute but I would not like them digging up my yard!!

The loop ended at the town of Wall and of course we had seen the hundreds of signs for Wall Drug so we stopped!

Since we have both seen Mount Rushmore in the Black Hills but not the Crazy Horse Memorial we made a special trip south to see that.    It was truly awe inspiring!  The Sioux elders had requested the artist to carve this memorial in the sacred Black Hills.   He is pointing to the land where his ancestors are buried.   To pur it in perspective, Mount Rushmore will fit in the head area of this statue!  The artist gave 50 years of his life and his children and grandchildren continue the work purely on donations . . they did not want help from the federal government.  It was an honor to give a small donation to ensure this memorial will be finished.   We hope to see it done in  our lifetime!

Finally we drove through the town of Deadwood at about 5300 feet elevation and notice the SNOW!  Also right in the middle of town next to the hospital we saw 3 deer grazing!  This is a neat town and we hope to stay there for a day on our next trip to this beautiful area.   We ended our night in Belle Fouche, SD.  Tomorrow we head into Montana and will stop at the Custer Battlefield of the Little Bighorn!  At Ft Riley, Kansas we saw Custer's house and where the 7th Calvary was mustered . . .now we will see where the 7th Calvary was wiped out on the Crow Reservation in Montana.
